Strand Club Report for December 2017

13th December 2017

Our December meeting was not a meeting at all really but a festive buffet lunch with entertainment by the wonderful Marsham Belles. They delighted us with a series of beautiful tunes on their hand bells, making a lovely sound very easy on the ear. We were able to sing along to those that we knew well. After some twenty minutes the Belles joined us in our afternoon tea which was donated by members and committee and was varied and tasty. Our thanks go to everyone who brought items for the buffet and to Glo for laying it all out so appetisingly. Chris and Jackie then circulated with presents from our Secret Santa sacks and the gorgeous little keyrings on each table were pointed out – one for each of us and made by our talented Jackie.

The Marsham Belles continued with their second half, pleasing us with some well known carols and Christmas songs. We sang along to those too, enjoying ourselves thoroughly.

The Christmas cake, made by Josie and iced by Jean, was cut and brought home by most of us to scoff later and Jackie’s lovely seasonal table decoration was won in the raffle by Gill Vears.

It was altogether a really good afternoon, much enjoyed and appreciated by everyone. The committee worked hard with their preparations and the Marsham Belles were fantastic – easy to recommend.

Our next meeting will be our lunch at the Country Club in January. Members are reminded to arrive at around 12.30, ready to sit down at 1 pm.

If you’d like to try us out, please do come along to our February meeting. This will be held as usual in the Sports Pavilion in Overstrand and begins at the normal time of 2pm. We charge just £2 at the door for visitors (to cover light refreshments) and raffle tickets are available separately throughout the afternoon. Our speaker on this occasion will be Georgette Vale who will take the part of Harriet Martineau. Harriet Martineau was a Norwich woman very much ahead of her time in her campaign against slavery and her work in journalism, novel writing, education, and as a sociologist and economist. It promises to be a very interesting afternoon and we hope to see you there.
