Strand Club Report for May 2018

REPORT

STRAND CLUB

9th May 2018

Today we enjoyed an excellent buffet lunch, our annual spring lunch, which this year was supplied by Outside Catering at the Old Rock Shop Bistro in Cromer. We can highly recommend this cafe with its outside catering branch. Sam worked away in the kitchen while our committee meeting was going on, plating up all the goodies. There were 25 of us to enjoy the fruits of his labours and the food was very good indeed. We had heavily laden plates with a good variety of salad items, ham, pork pie, quiche for the vegetarians amongst us and gluten-free options too. They had worked extremely hard and we will be sending them a letter of appreciation. Josie treated us to a choice of cakes to celebrate her special birthday. The Bistro supplied these too and they were beautifully light and tasty. All in all a lovely experience and one we can hopefully repeat.

The Strand Club proposes to hold a fundraising coffee morning in the Pavilion on 8th August. It will take place between 10 until 12 and will be in aid of two charities. Canine Concern is an animal therapy charity which sends trained pets wherever they are needed to lighten lives and alleviate stress – care homes, prisons, and to children who are undertaking exams or having difficulty with school. The second cause we will be supporting is the new doctors’ surgery in Cromer. The NHS have paid for the fabric of the building but all contents have to be supplied by donations. At our coffee morning there will be refreshments to buy, a raffle, cake stall, tabletop sale of bric a brac, and a guess the weight of the cake. It should be a fun morning.

Our next meeting will take the form of our outing to Gressenhall with transport supplied by Wrights Coaches. We are all greatly looking forward to this.

Please do come along and try us out at any of our “normal” meetings! They begin at 2 pm and are always held in the Sports Pavilion in Overstrand. Everyone is welcome and we charge just £2 at the door which covers light refreshments. On 11th July we will have a talk from a representative of Ben’s Workforce, an offshoot of the Benjamin Foundation, which should be very interesting. Please come and see if you like us! For further information please contact our Chairman, Jackie, on 01263 720866 or our Secretary, Chris, on 01263 579433. We look forward to meeting you!
